Due to growing environmental concerns and better performance from E.V.s, many governments are planning on banning the sales of gas-powered cars by 2035. Thus making 2035, the end of an era.

How does Mercedes approach this transition?

An Insight inspired by our History.

While others might associate the gas-powered age with the violation of the environment, rising inflation and general frustration. Mercedes has a different relationship.

Mercedes patented the first gas-powered car.

Their origins are credited to a forward-thinking attitude in Bertha Benz, wife of the inventor Karl Benz, being the first person to ever drive a car. So for us, it’s a farewell to some very beautiful memories.

The Illusion

We’re not making gas-powered cars a thing of the past, We’re transforming gas-powered cars into beautiful memories.

We will create an entire campaign selling the inventory- and telling the story of our “last 35” gas-powered cars.

We will highlight each car individually and invite people not just to buy them, but to make beautiful memories with them, as we say goodbye to the gas era.

We tease the campaign by suddenly putting up billboards all around the world, featuring individually numbered cars.

We then reveal what these are, and what our campaign is all about. Every splash page features a story about the car, and a mini documentary telling its story further.

As each numbered car is purchased, we make its absence known.

Ride your car, Share your memories. Each of the last 35 buyers will get the chance to share the memories they make with their new car. We will give them a go pro to film with, and an exclusive social account they can share their videos on.
